10 Best Moments of Pride NYC 2015

By Jessica Mahmoud on June 30, 2015

I live really close to New York City, so on Sunday I walked in the Pride march with my school. It was a really amazing day, especially with the recent ruling of same-sex marriage being allowed nationwide. It’s awesome to see how many people came out to support the LGBTQ Community.

In case you missed it, here are 10 of the best moments.

1. When I caught this perfect moment on camera

I think this was a skiing group or something and it was hilarious when someone else in the march was taking this picture, and I was able to get it as well. It’s all in the timing!

2. When Trojan Condoms came out in support of the LGBTQ Community

Trojan condoms is a huge condom company, and it was great to see them come out with their rainbow logo and sparkling float in support of the LGBTQ Community. Not to mention the free condoms and Trojan tattoos they gave out to those on the sidelines!

3. The Hilary Clinton Marchers

With Hillary Clinton announcing that she is running in the presidential election next year, Pride was a great place to showcase her support of the LGBTQ Community. Presidential support of the Community is important for people who want to see change and more equal rights, like the recent same-sex marriage passing.

4. Mama Jean

With the “Free the Nipple” Campaign last year, this year’s pride was full of, well, nipples! Sideline pride goers as well as marchers were baring their breasts for all to see. “Mama” Jean decided to flash us at Pride as well.

5. Google shows support

Colorful balloons and their huge logo showcased Google’s support for the LGBTQ Community. Rainbow flags as well as The Humans Rights Campaign were waved by marchers.

6. Leathermen Bare it all

Leather is a subculture that denotes practices and styles of dress organized around sexual activities. Wearing leather garments is one way that participants in this culture self-consciously distinguish themselves from mainstream sexual cultures.

Leather culture is most visible in gay communities and most associated with gay men (“leathermen”), but is also reflected in various ways in the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and heterosexual worlds. Many people associate leather culture with BDSM (Bondage/Discipline, Dominance/Submission, Sadism/Masochism). The individuals on this float are representing The Eagle Bar NYC, a Leather bar, located in Chelsea.

7. When we were once again reminded that Love Won on Friday

“#LoveWins” trended on the internet after President Obama, Hillary Clinton, as well as other celebrities used it in celebration of last week’s passing of same-sex marriage nationwide. Pride NYC was extra amazing because so many people are so happy about this life-changing decision. It was a great place to keep the recognition going.

8. When Android showed support

Just like Google, Android has become a huge name in electronics so it’s great to see they support the LGBTQ Community. Their float was fun and lively with loud music getting everyone really pumped up.

9. When we passed The Stonewall Inn

Although I’ve yet to actually visit The Stonewall Inn, because you have to be 21 to get in, it was cool to see it. This is where Pride came to be, with the riots that took place there in 1969. It also became a New York City landmark last Tuesday!

10. Cheer performance

Here’s a short video of the Cheer New York performance from the March. They’re really talented and I’m glad I caught it on video!

Pride NYC was a really amazing day and definitely a great time to celebrate! I hope that you participated in Pride events near you, or plan on doing so soon. I hope this convinces you on how much fun they are and how amazing it is to see all the support of the LGBTQ Community.
