SPREADING AWARENESS: African Rebel Leader Kidnaps, Rapes, and Murders Thousands, Local Africans Team with Americans to Capture and Stop Him

College students and Americans alike have been working for years to help the “Invisible Children” of Africa. They have been spreading awareness through videos and public demonstrations. Now, the mission to catch the rebel leader responsible for thousands of murders, raped children, and kidnappings has hit its next level. A new video explaining who Kony is and what we as Americans can do to help has recently gone viral. [You can watch it below.] If you do choose to help, do not feel like you must spend any money to support the cause.

To spread awareness all you need to do is talk about the issue. The more people that know who Kony is and what he is doing, the more likely he can be caught and stopped. The best way to spread peace in the world is to start with yourself and your community. If you are half the hippy I was raised to be then you may feel just as angry and frustrated that we can’t take more action to help. BUT WE CAN! It all starts with you, the individual. Any cause or concern you have about your community is valid; after all, you are a part of it.

The world community is coming together now to take action and spread peace. I use this as a time to reflect on the world and how it has changed immensely in terms of communication and outreach. With the amount of technology and knowledge available today I feel that there is no excuse for us not to learn about our world beyond what we learn in the classroom or mainstream news. Our own government refused to help until hundreds of thousands of Americans demanded it. The power lies in us, the people. I use this as motivation not only to help those in Uganda, but also to help those who need it in my own community, even if all they need is to be heard.
